Grammar School

Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to our website.

A warm welcome and thank you for your interest in our school.

The Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre is an 11-18 mixed school with two very distinct parts; an 11-16 selective Grammar School and an island comprehensive Sixth Form. Whatever your reason for visiting our website, whether you are a student, a former student, current or prospective parent or potential member of staff, we hope you find the site informative.

The school serves the island of Guernsey and, having opened in 1985, we combine the strengths of a strong academic record based on traditional foundations with an approach which seeks to develop the whole person and prepare young people for life and work in the 21st Century.  Aspirations and expectations of our students are high. Our school has a reputation for being a happy, friendly, stimulating and caring environment in which everyone is given the opportunity and support to be successful and reach their full potential.  A noted feature of the school is the friendly atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect, and the supportive relationships among all who work there.

We believe in empowering young people, nurturing the appetite for lifelong learning.  Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, be independent and to support others. Developing the whole person, students are encouraged to engage in a broad and enriched curriculum.  An extensive range of events and activities extend the learning day.

There are 442 students in Years 7-11 and 462 students in Years 12 and 13. The students in the Sixth Form Centre come from every school within the Bailiwick of Guernsey and study a wide range of AS, A Level and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programmes.

Our ambition is to improve still further and, together, as a learning community, we will continue to set and achieve the high standards for which the Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre is well known, whilst producing well balanced, successful and happy citizens of tomorrow.

Our website can only offer a summary of the opportunities available to students. Please do not hesitate to contact the school for further information.
