CGi Technology Challenge - June 2011
Every June, eight Year 9, Design & Technology students from the Grammar School are invited to take part in the CGi Technology Challenge that involves Secondary students from throughout the Bailiwick.
This year, the challenge was to produce a device that showed "the need for speed" and pop a water filled balloon over a willing States Deputie's head! The guest for the day was Richard Noble (the driving force behind the World Land Speed Record attempts).
A great time was had by all and model cars really "flew" down the course.



Project Week - Design It- Make It - July 2010
Mr Smith ran this project for 9 Year 8 & 9 students. They made a variety of products, including - Personalised Tee Shirts, Personalised Mugs, 24carat Gold hand turned Pens, Enamelled, Cast and Laser cut Jewellery and Laser cut animals.

The Department
(An Overview)

The Graphic Products and Resistant Materials areas are situated around a pleasant and stimulating courtyard on the entrance level of the school. Whilst the Food and Textiles rooms enjoy a rural outlook on the same level. The department boasts six well equipped work areas enabling a wide variety of different skills and materials to be experienced.

"Within the department we believe that Design and Technology should be a dynamic and exciting option that can provide one of the most valuable learning experiences in the school curriculum. "
Throughout Key Stage 3 all students, irrespective of gender, experience courses in Resistant Materials, Food, Textiles and Graphics, where the emphasis is not only on ‘designing’ but also the production of quality practical outcomes. The use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) is also actively encouraged in order to help produce high quality work.

GCSE Courses are followed in Food & Nutrition, Resistant Materials and Graphic Products.
Whilst at A-Level, Resistant Materials and Graphic Products courses are currently offered.
