Course Structure

Unit 1:
F521 (Advanced Innovation Challenge)
This is a six hour exam taken in the workshop in 2 three hour sessions with lunch inbetween. In the first session students design a solution to a set problem. In the second session they model (in 3D using resistant materials) the solution they have designed.
In a 1 hour exam taken a week later, students prepare a marketing presentation to 'sell' their idea.
Unit 2:
F522 (Product Study)
Students choose a Product which exhibits a design defect and then produce an “e-folio” showing how they redesign the product to cure the fault – the outcome is a series of models that demonstrates the solution.

During this Year a considerable amount of related theory is covered, much of it taught through practical experience and 'mini projects'
