Music

As well as the academic curriculum, the Music Department has a thriving programme of extracurricular activities. Music is an important part of school life and pupils in all years get involved. Activities currently running include a range of choirs for different year groups all performing in different styles, senior wind band and training wind band, orchestra, swing band and training strings. Groups that are formed and run by students are also highly encouraged.

The Music Department takes part in a range of events throughout the year, including performances for the annual carol service in St Stephen’s Church, performing at a range of local community events such as Castle Cornet’s Winter Fayre and entering a range of classes in the prestigious Guernsey Eisteddfod in February. All work that has taken place throughout the year culminates in an end of year concert to celebrate the students’ achievements. Alongside these musical events, the Music Department joins forces with the Drama Department to put on a school production every year. Past performances have included ‘We will rock you’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Guys and Dolls’ and ‘Les Miserables’. This year’s production is the classic ‘Oh, it’s a Lovely War’ being performed by sixth form students only.

The Music Department also has a strong relationship with Guernsey Music Service. Many of our pupils have peripatetic instrumental lessons within school and, therefore, have the opportunity to take part in a range of Music Service ensembles that run throughout the week, including Saturdays.

For more information about music within the school please contact the Head of Music, Mrs D Bideau.

Sign2Sing

On Wednesday 5th February, our school, and thousands of other schools, businesses and choirs across the UK and abroad, took part in Sign2Sing for SignHealth, the healthcare charity for deaf children and adults. To prepare for this, students and staff learnt a specially written song called ‘As One’.  We raised money for SignHealth and all money raised has gone towards helping SignHealth transform the lives of thousands of deaf people living in the UK.

Listen to the school taking part here.
