TEACHING & LEARNING

Technology is central to the way in which we work, learn and communicate with each other. E-learning is a rapidly evolving area and we are continually finding new ways in which to use it to support the learning process. It also allows us to extend our resources and support for learning beyond the school day and many web-based resources are available to students at the time and location of their choice. Research confirms that access to technology makes a significant impact on the learning outcomes of students.

There are a range of interactive programmes and resources available for use in school, used within subject areas. In addition, we also have a learning platform which can be accessed online and provides a set of virtual class resources and collaborative tools, to support and personalise learning outside school. It is also possible for students to submit work online and collaborate with teachers and other learners.

Interactive white boards are available for use in teaching throughout the school and our video-conferencing unit supports distance-learning courses and interactive workshops with outside organisations, such as the National Space Centre and the National Archives.

E-LEARNING FACILITIES

Facilities in school include access within lessons and during the school day, to a range of ICT suites. There are also designated individual study areas with computer access throughout the school campus, including the school library. To support learning in lessons, laptops are also available for a range of activities, including recording and collating scientific data.

STUDENT AREAS

In all areas of the school, an awareness of e-safety issues and the responsible use of technology are raised in a variety of ways. However, in order to further clarify expectations, an acceptable use policy is agreed upon by all students
