REPORTS AND PROGRESS REVIEWS

We have established a system of reporting procedures which is intended to be clearly understood, to be consistent and to assist the learning of the students. Parents receive two progress reviews and one summary report each year.

PROGRESS REVIEW

The progress reviews are sent to parents in November and March. They indicate on a single sheet of paper how well each student’s learning is progressing in the course of the year for each subject. Attainment Effort and Homework are assessed on a scale of 1 to 5. The score criteria are included on the review.

A ‘C’ in the cause for concern column indicates that the subject teacher considers there is a need for you to contact them as soon as possible. If there are two or more ‘C’s’ you will be contacted by the Head of Year to pursue matters. Students who are identified as underachieving will be placed on a mentoring and monitoring programme until they improve. This programme will be co-ordinated by the Head of Year and Tutor team.

Progress reviews for the KS4 (Years 10 and 11) students will have additional information on them. These reviews will include subject predicted, current and minimum target grades. The grades are based on the knowledge and application of the subject content that has been covered to date.

SUMMARY REPORT

At the end of the school year, the detailed report summarises the year’s learning and activities and the level of achievement in each subject. This is on a range of A* - D, which in Years 10 and 11 reflect GCSE grades. An exception to this is at the end of Year 9, where attainment is reported in Teacher Assessed National Curriculum Levels at the end of Key Stage 3. Year 11 receive their summary report in February after mock examinations, instead of the second progress review.

For each subject, there is a summary of the content of the year’s course, an assessment of each attainment target and an overall grade, a comment by the subject teacher and specific targets for improvement. It is important that parents spend some time discussing these targets and try to identify common goals set by different subjects. This will give you an overall picture of where your child needs to improve. In most cases the end of year examination mark is also shown. In addition, the full report contains an attendance and lateness record, a comment by the Tutor and the Head of Year. Finally there is a parental reply sheet to confirm receipt of the report and to offer parents and students the opportunity to comment on the report.

We intend that this system will form a record from year to year which will make it possible to keep track of progress in each subject.

The progress review sheets and end of year reports are sent home via the student. It is important that we receive the parental reply slip by the date indicated. You will be notified by text message to your mobile phone when reports have been sent home.
