PROJECT WEEK INFORMATION
Project Week 2011—Starts on 18th July 2011
Project Week is an event which has become a highlight of our school calendar. It is an opportunity for every student in the school to engage in an activity beyond the familiar school structures and normal classroom routines.
Project Week allows our teachers to devise activities which focus on the social and personal development of our students, enhancing the curriculum and tying learning done in the classroom to real situations. Above all, the week is about enjoyment, sharing and learning through experience.
In Year 7, all students take part in the very popular I'm a Year 7 get me out of here! project, which includes a night camping on Herm, a RIB trip, orienteering, a scavenger hunt, beach games and challenges, swimming and more...
In Years 8 & 9 students will have the opportunity of choosing to go to Normandy for an exciting week of activities at Chateau du Molay which is very close to both the beaches of the D-Day landings and the town on Bayeux. This links in very closely with the History work Year 9 students will be undertaking in the summer term. Students attending this trip will also get the breadth of the other activities offered on the residential which includes a day at the Norman Conquest Theme Park at Festyland; Sand Yachting and Water sport activities
The knock on effect of organising these large group trips is that Years 8, 9 and 10 will have more choice for other projects.
There are activities which involve leaving the island to travel to other islands or beyond to Europe. The cost of these activities is higher but the educational experiences enjoyed by those taking part will last in the memory for years to come. It should be noted that students who registered interest in the overseas activities have already been assigned to these trips, and so the descriptions of these projects are included here to provide information for future years.
Other activities are based in school or involve travelling within Guernsey. For these, costs are relatively modest. As a reminder it is our policy that no student should be prevented from taking part due to financial reasons; if there is a genuine reason why this sum cannot be afforded please contact the school.
Each of the diverse activities has its own set of social and personal development opportunities and objectives, from overcoming considerable physical challenges and the experience of communal living, to acquiring new skills alongside students from different year groups. But all the projects promote a cooperative style of working and encourage the development of self-esteem, commitment, and responsibility. The nurturing of these attributes is at the core of the aims and values of the school and it is for this reason that Project Week is a cherished finale to our year.
These pages contain brief descriptions of all the activities and the costs involved. Students will be asked to make their choices in school, before half term.
