SAFETY AND SECURITY
It is expected that students will act with courtesy, consideration and good manners towards one another, as well as towards members of staff and visitors to the school. School rules are intended to enable students to experience and contribute to a secure and supportive community, to facilitate the smooth running of the school and to create a safe environment.
VEHICLES
For the sake ofsafety and security:
- Cycles should have locks, and be parked in the cycle racks at the front of the school
- No motor vehicle can be brought to school without adequate insurance, and registration numbers must be given to the School Office
- Vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk
- Vehicles should only be parked in designated areas Students must complete the appropriate form (available from the school office) if they wish to bring their car/motor bike, on site.
BANNED ITEMS
The following items are not permitted on school premises:
- All drugs and illegal substances;
- Tobacco, alcohol and chewing gum;
Dangerous items such as knives, fireworks etc.
MONEY AND VALUABLES
These should not be brought into school unless absolutely necessary in which case they should be left at the school office for safe keeping.
REMOVAL OF PERSONAL POSSESSIONS
Staff are authorised to remove from students any items found in their possession which present a danger or a threat to the health and safety of themselves or others. This includes such things as knives, fireworks, smoking materials and illegal substances.
Students using their possessions inappropriately and contrary to school guidelines, such as mobile phones or i-pods, or wearing items not permitted as part of school uniform, such as jewellery, will in the first instance be asked firmly and respectfully to keep these out of sight in their possession. In cases of refusal, non-compliance or persistence, staff are authorised to remove these items from their possession.
Staff are held responsible for the security and safekeeping of any student possessions which they remove. Items will be placed in an envelope, marked with the name of the student and the date, and handed in to the school office. They will be returned to the student at the end of the school day. In respect of illegal or dangerous items, Senior Management will be informed and they will decide on the correct response to the incident.
LOCKERS
Students are requested to provide a padlock to secure their own locker and are responsible for the key.
DAMAGE
Students can be asked to contribute to the cost of repair and replacement of school property which is damaged as the result of careless or thoughtless behaviour.
