PDO INFORMATION


PDOs are extra-curricular activities that students participate in. These are a compulsory part of Sixth Form and can provide valuable skills and can also be a lot of fun. Students are required to pick two PDOs, one skills development and one physical activity. Some involve a small cost but many are free.

There are a wide variety of choices for you to choose from. Here are the physical activity (PDA) options:


Basketball. Fun, enjoyable and delightful way of learning and enjoying the sport of basketball.  FREE


Football. If you want to be the next Steven Gerard then this is the PDA for you.  Develops your skills and knowledge of the game while interacting as a team.  FREE

 

Kings gym. Pump some iron, get ripped. Go to Kings Gym and experience an out of school activity, a mini bus is put on to get you there. £30



Mixed touch rugby. Get stuck in, tag your opponent. FREE

 

Badminton. An excellent game to improve fitness. Helps to develop eye coordination skills and the sense of achievement. £1 a week/ session=£14

 
Yoga. A great way to relax the body, mind and spirit led by young instructor Emma. £18
 

 
5 a-side football. Enjoy a social game of football with your friends in the comfort of the indoors. FREE


Dance aerobics. A fun and enjoyable way to keep fit and healthy and improve flexibility. FREE


Sailing. Be the king of the sea; students will learn all of the basics and learn some fantastic life skills along the way. Varies On Numbers

 

Swimming. An opportunity to use the school facilities and be like Michael Phelps. FREE


Volleyball. A fantastic team game that can improve your fitness and communication skills. FREE


Train station gym.  A chance to improve fitness with personal trainers who will push you to the limit. COST £1.50 / SESSION £21

 

Cross country running.  Push yourself to the limit and enjoy cross country running over various terrains with friends and fellow peers. FREE
 

Bronze Medallion Life saving.  Learn vital water based life saving skills and basic first aid skills. COST £10


You also have to choose another option. These are few examples of the non – physical activities and you can choose from. (PDO) .They are:


Car maintenance. Learn some specialist, valuable skills in theory and practical sessions on how to keep a car running. FREE


Year 12 cookery.  Fall in love with food, and indulge your senses. Improve your culinary skills and pick up a new hobby on the way. Weekly cost of ingredients.

 
Web news.  Are you interested in journalism? Do you want to have the chance to create or improve websites? If the answer is yes then this is the PDO for you. FREE


   
Complementary medicine.  A great chance to find out some useful information and techniques used in medicine. These techniques include acupuncture, spiritual healing and homeopathy. Do you want to be a nurse? Are you interested in how deadly diseases are cured? If yes pick this as your number one! COST: £3.50


                                               
Computing.  Explore into the digital world of computing. Activities include problem solving, and simple programming. FREE
                                              


European computer driving licence. Gain a valuable, highly regarded IT qualification which employees will appreciate. FREE

                                           

Out and about.  Get away from the normality of school and enjoy the great outdoors in some enjoyable guided walks round the island. Fresh airs, the wind blowing through your hairs whilst eating juicy pears, get out the perfect way to relax and get away from all the stress. FREE
