Useful Information for Prospective Year 12 Students

From Current Year 12 Students.

We are current Year 12 Students and we have devised this slide show to give you more information about the School Day, Bus Service, Shopping and links to other website.

We also wanted to tell you about other opportunities in the Sixth Form such as Annual Competitions and Opportunities in the Sixth Form Centre for Upcoming Year 12 Students

Rotary Youth Speaks competition

The Rotary Youth Speaks is a public speaking competition for young people. The object is to give young people experience in speaking on a public platform, to encourage them to formulate their ideas on specific topics and to present them concisely in a limited time, together with the opportunity to learn from the performance of others’ high standards of expression, presentation and appearance. A team is composed of three young people. The Chairperson has two minutes to welcome the audience, introduce the speaker and inform the audience of the relevance or expertise of the speaker to the subject of the speech. The Speaker has six minutes for the address and a maximum of two minutes to consider and answer a question posed by the questioner. The Proposer of the Vote of Thanks has two minutes to propose the vote of thanks. After this and any applause, the Chairperson will close proceedings. There are two competitions, the Intermediate Competition for students aged 11 to 13 years and the Senior Competition for students aged 14 to 17 years.

Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise is a not-for-profit business and enterprise education charity in the United Kingdom. It is made up of 12 regional organisations, each operating individually under a license agreement. Young Enterprise's mission statement is "To inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.” At the Sixth Form Centre, each Year 12 student has the chance to take part in running their own company to get a taste of business experience.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education—that we believe is important for our students. * Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes visit www.ibo.org
